Frequently Asked Questions For Hair Removal

Is laser hair removal permanent?<= /o:p>

Permanent hair reduction is possible w= ith the laser.  This means that ha= ir can be reduced so that any re-growth that might occur can easily be removed with periodic touch-ups.  Because o= f the biology of hair growth, treatments are recommended about 1-2 months apart.<= span style=3D'mso-spacerun:yes'>  Not all hairs are actively growing= at the same time.  The number of treatments required depends on the location and depth of the hair follicles= .

How does the laser remove hair?=
The laser emits a beam of light that is attracted to the pigment or melanin= in the hair follicle that is in an active growing cycle. A pre-determined pulse duration and energy setting are directed at and absorbed by the hair follic= les, disabling the growth of the follicles, resulting in quick, safe and effecti= ve hair removal.

What is the advantage of using a laser= ?
Lasers are precise instruments that can be adjusted to the exact parameters that will specifically disable the hair follicle. The laser uses a wide beam that treats many hairs at once instead of treating hair-by-hair like electrolysis. Because of this, large areas such as your legs, arms, or back= can be treated in a short period of time. You will see results that last far lo= nger than tweezing, waxing, shaving, chemical depilation, or other temporary methods.

What does the laser treatment feel lik= e?
The treatment does have a slight prickly or stinging sensation. Most of our clients are able to tolerate the treatment without difficulty. The Smartcoo= l
ä cooling device by Cynosure is effective in reducing the discomfort during y= our treatment.  However, every per= son’s level of sensitivity is different and treatment areas may vary.<= /span>

Can all hair colors be successfully treated?

Not everyone is an ideal candidate for laser hair removal.  Blonde, r= ed, and gray hair does not respond well to laser hair removal.  Individuals with dark hair are best suited for laser hair removal.  The pigment in dark  hair absorbs = more light  energy and is therefore easier to treat.

How many laser treatments will I need?=
It has been our experience most of our patients are able to discontinue treatments, knowing they will probably need an occasional touchup, after an average of 6 treatments. This is providing that the recommended treatment schedule is followed. It is also important to understand, results may vary depending on the individuals hair type, their stress levels, certain medications and different hormone levels. Keeping in mind some individuals require fewer treatments and some will require more treatments depending on= the results desired.

Are there any restrictions on my activities after the treatment?

Since the laser is not invasive in any way, you can return to work the same day and resume regular activities.  We recommend that you avoid tannin= g and extended sun exposure at least 2 weeks prior to your treatment.  Despite what others may say, to get optimum results with the least amount of treatments, you should not have la= ser hair removal if you are tanned.

Is there any special skin or hair care that I need to be aware of ahead of time?

The areas that are to be treated should not be plucked, waxed, bleached, or treated with a depilatory cream  for 4 weeks before each treatment session.  We recommend that you shave or trim the area up to 1-2 days before treatment , it is ok to leave a short stubble.

What to expect after laser treatment:<= o:p>

The treated area becomes slightly redd= ened similar to a mild sunburn.  Th= is usually subsides within 24-48 hours. =   You should enjoy a significant reduction of hair. However, it will t= ake 2-4 weeks for the treated hair to push its way to the surface and fall out. With each treatment, the hair in the active growing phase will be effective= ly treated. A follow up appointment is scheduled in 4-8 weeks after each treatment. Keeping in mind the importance of maintaining your follow up appointments.
